Prompt
This project is inspired by the Hourly Comic Day challenge which happens every Feb 1. The goal
is to draw a comic showing every hour of your day.
Concept
I did the challenge in July and rendered full vector illustrations for each hour over the course of two weeks rather than doing quick drawings in only one day.
Process
I started with a border around each image then I moved away from that idea. In the future, I want to create an accordion zine and a book version where I add descriptions for each square. It would also be nice to have stickers of the individual squares. The final poster is 13x19 in.
8 AM
My bedside table after I wake up, including the sunflower plate I painted, my blue light glasses, and my phone plugged in ready for the morning alarm.
2 PM
At our local Cat Cafe, my friends and I pet and played with the cats, the laser was their favorite to chase.
3 PM
We ate at one of my favorite restaurants. I had miso pork ramen with a strawberry lemon bubble tea.
4 PM
We shared some pretzel bites and sat on the side of the fountain full of coins.
Takeaways
There is beauty in everyday life and art can be made out of the most mundane things and still be beautiful. It was so wonderful to be able to see it hanging in the gallery and get to see people’s reactions to it.
