Brief
Create an informative motion piece surrounding a topic in Indian culture. Work on a team with both RIT and Pearl students in India to support each other with research, authenticity of the information, and design critique. Each person made their own video on their own topic.
Concept
I chose to explain what a Masala Dabba is and the spices that are typically used in Indian cuisine. A lot of people are unfamiliar with spices or have heard of them, but have never used them in their own dishes.
Research
Accuracy is imperative when designing infographics. I read multiple articles and watched cooking tutorials from Indian women. As part of the feedback from my team, I had the Indian students approve the spices that I chose to cover in the video.
Illustration Process
In developing the style for the video, I started with a flat vector look. Then I worked in Photoshop to bring the spices to life with more detail and texture.
Takeaways
When working with motion design, it is important to be conscious of how much information there is on screen and how long it takes the viewer to read it. It is exciting to learn about other cultures and be able to share it with others.
