Brief
Design an editorial spread for a Psychology Today article emphasizing typography and structure. I worked with the article “Why It Could Be Good to Have a Song Stuck in Your Head” by Kelly Jakubowski PhD.
Ideation
With such a long title, I decided to use mostly type, letting the typography be the star and capture the idea of being stuck in the corner of the page. The article talked about how music can boost mood and memory and other positive aspects, so it was important to capture that feeling in the design.
Photography
I took a photo of a vintage record and edited out the writing so I could put the body copy over it.
Iterations
Originally, the vinyl texture was just on the words “Song Stuck,” but the color scheme of the record is very retro and eye-catching, so I included the whole image. The colors also play into the theme of the article being positive. The white and blue titles are also effective, but ultimately I chose yellow because it pops more against the gray.
