Project Goal
Design an exhibit showing the timeline of how toy phones have changed over the years, appealing to younger audiences and parents alike. To keep the audience in mind, the images and dates are lower on the wall for children’s height, including bright vector illustrations and young characters for kids to identify with.
Interactive Design
Aside from the two walls making up the timeline, there would be an interactive aspect of the exhibit. Physical versions of the toy phones would be there to play with and versions that have audio information about the phones that you can listen to when you hold it up to your ear. The information would also be printed on a plaque on the table for accessibility.
Assets
I created the phones in Adobe Illustrator to achieve a clean, flat style that would scale appropriately for a large wall.
Character Design
I drew the characters in Illustrator in a
cartoon style to appeal to children. I wanted to allude to the time difference of the two characters by dressing the boy in a button-up and the girl in a bedazzled shirt.

Process
I explored different colors and layouts. I moved the characters down so children can see them better and made the toys bigger to bring more emphasis to them. I went with a chalk-style brush to reference kids' handwriting. The biggest change for the final is the addition of the “Did You Know” section.
